Cardiac & Vascular in Miami

You rely on a healthy heart and cardiovascular system to pump blood throughout your body every day of your life. The Heart Center at Mercy Hospital provides cutting-edge cardiac care for heart and vascular conditions. Our cardiac services include minimally invasive procedures and cardiothoracic surgery, Code STEMI treatment for heart attacks, and diagnostic imaging in Miami to diagnose and monitor heart symptoms and conditions.

Arrhythmia Treatment

Cardiac arrhythmias cause the heart to beat unevenly. Arrhythmias may be completely harmless, or they may significantly affect your heart’s ability to pump blood and raise your risk for other complications. Mercy Hospital’s Arrhythmia and Syncope Center is a unique facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias of all types.

  • Treatment options for heart arrhythmias include medication, as well as nonsurgical and surgical solutions to treat the source of the heart’s rhythm problem.
  • Medications may include drugs to even out the beating of the heart, as well as blood thinners to prevent clots from forming, which raise your risk for heart attack and stroke.
  • Nonsurgical arrhythmia treatments include cardioversion and cardiac ablation. Cardioversion uses an external electric shock to “reset” your heart’s rhythm. Cardiac ablation is performed via a catheter, which is inserted into your heart through a large artery in your groin or leg. The catheter is used to selectively destroy the tissues inside the heart sending irregular electrical signals, restoring your heart’s normal, healthy rhythm.
  • Surgical arrhythmia treatment may include insertion of a pacemaker into the heart, which delivers controlled electrical signals from inside the body to keep your heart’s rhythm steady.

Valve Repair and Replacement

Your heart contains four valves, which are responsible for ensuring blood flows in one direction through the organ. Valve disease is a common affliction that affects one or more valves, reducing the efficiency of your heart, which can in turn lead to a decline in overall health. In some cases, the valves that control blood flow may not have formed properly, called a congenital valve defect. Alternatively, the valves of the heart can become damaged over time by disease or chronic conditions. Valve repair and replacement surgeries aim to either repair the damaged valve by reshaping or rebuilding the flaps of the valve, or to replace the valve itself with a mechanical or biological valve that will take over the work of the original valve.

At Mercy Hospital’s Heart Center, our experienced cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons offer complete heart and vascular care for heart valve problems, arrhythmia, heart attack, and heart disease in Miami.
